Why Men Turn Nasty After Being Rejected

Over my years of dating, I have had to engage with my fair share of rejection, dealing and receiving it. I’ve found that the more you date, the easier rejection becomes. If someone doesn't reply to your text, you respect their decision and never message again. If someone is mature enough to formally end things via text, usually just the ‘I’m not feeling it’ response or some other alternative, you thank them for their honesty and wish them well.

The most important thing I've learned in dating is never to take it personally and always be honest with people. What I’ve discovered the hard way, however, is that many men I’ve dated aren’t graceful when it comes to rejection. The number of men who act as though I’ve ruined their lives and broken their hearts by turning down a second date after only spending two or three hours with them is astonishing and concerning.

It’s become quite a frightening experience being a woman turning down men in the dating world. I’ve always done so honestly and straightforwardly: I don’t leave room for interpretation, but I never insult or degrade the guy. No matter how politely and delicately I phrase my rejection, the responses I’ve gotten have been baffling, immature and vicious, to say the least. From men in their late thirties sending me laughing emojis as their reply to others…
